 Years ago in 1996, when I started on the Internet, I was selling African curios, art and craft and mainly to the USA. As I am based in South Africa a lot of red tape was involved, especially with products that contained any wildlife component. On the one hand I needed veterinary certificates and export permits from South Africa and on the other hand I needed Fish & Wildlife clearance (USA) or Veterinary certificates (Europe). All these created long delays from the time of order to delivery. Not only that, the cost of delivery was horrendous because I needed to use agents to arrange for clearance in the USA and in Europe.
